I would like to learn how to make rings

Postby britt06 on Wed Mar 26, 2008 3:56 am

I really would like to know how to make rings. I know you can buy the stuff at a craft shop-but I would like to know what's the easiest way to make them, and what I would need to do it with.

That sounds like a fantastic idea! I was in a workshop a couple years ago and made a pair of earrings from semi-precious stones and sterling silver. Everything had been prepped and all I had to do was complete the assembly, so it wasn't the most creative process, but it was a lot of fun. Plus, it let me brag up my earrings (these old things? I just threw them together...) You could go in with a couple people to buy the necessary tools and throw a ring party!

There are tons of websites with video how-to's. Depending on if you want to wrap stones with sterling wire (easy), cast with metal clay (harder) or cast in fine metals (expensive), the resources of how to and where to buy supplies (I recommend the internet), the resources are there. Try http://jewelry.suite101.com for a start.

My mother had an engagement ring made of birch bark. They're actually quite easy to make, at least the most simple patterns. That is to say, it doesn't always has to be metal.

Making jewlery can be a lot of fun considering you get a real sense of accomplishment from making it. Personally i would like to get into doing it as well. This is a really cool website that shows how to make simple rings: http://www.golden-knots.com/replace.html

My mom took a jewelery making class. She said it was a great time, and once you get the hang of it, it's not that hard. She made me a beautiful ring with a green stone in it, it looks very professional. :D

i would love to know this too, i've gone to a few jewelers and drawn some of my ideas out for them and had them show me things that look similiar. perhaps this is a good option for someone who just wants to design their own engagement ring, etc
