My jeweler recommends the pearl cleaning solution made by Hagerty, so that's what I use. Otherwise, use a solution of mild soap and water. You can also wipe them down with a soft cloth, either dry or damp. If the pearls are strung, it's best not to get the silk wet, so just wipe necklaces and bracelets. If the cord does get damp, be sure it's completely dry before you put the piece away. Don't use harsh or abrasive jewelry cleaners on pearls.

i would clean very minimally. pearls actually grow more beautiful as they pick up the oils from your skin- it gives them a richer look over time.

Just use a damp cloth, that is what I would use. You don't want to ruin the natural surface of the pearls with chemical cleaners.

I'm pretty sure you have to clean pearls because they will turn yellow from age if not.

You also need to be sure to touch them a lot as the oils from your hands keep them from drying out.

I use a mild saline soultion - but the others in teh forum are right. You don't really need to clean pearls too often.

I use pearl cleaning solution for my delicate pearls. It cleans them out well instead of using a wet cloth (which you have to be very careful with when cleaning). Also, your hands have a lot of oily residue, so be careful with that as well while cleaning your pearls.
