Do you like PATINA on your Sterling Silver??

Postby Anna on Thu Mar 27, 2008 5:39 am

I really don't. I have a 'vintage' sterling silver bracelet and no matter what I do the patina returns. A lot of people feel that patina beautifies their jewelry and gives it that 'vintage look'. What say you???

WHAT IS PATINA?
Patina
The term patina is used to describe jewelry which changes color after exposure to oxygen. This change is gradual with time, and can often be used to date items. People associate the term with sterling silver jewelry, but many other metals can be affected as well as silver. Many collectors like the aged look that patina gives a piece and like to have this patina intact. Others like to have that newly purchased, polished look, so they will remove the patina with various methods of cleaning.

It is often hard to remove the patina that has built up over time. Patina does not damage an item. It is a byproduct of time and exposure to the elements. It should not be confused with verdigris or green gunk, which is a more damaging condition.

A patina is basically tarnish. :) Some people like it on silver with raised designs because the dark color can enhance the design. For myself, I prefer tarnish free silver. I like the luster and the shine of a polished piece. I don't like the work, though, so I have to admit to having some items with a patina!

Is Patina on Sterling Silver only??? I have a white gold vintage ring my mum gave me for my grad and it has some dark colouring in all the perfect spots. I love it because it makes the ring so unique.

No, other metals can acquire a patina. For some people, a patina adds to the value of a piece because it indicates age. For others, it enhances the beauty. Sounds like that's the case for you. :)

This shoe, top laser pattern is a pair of dragons, and a pair of phoenixes, I only saw the picture. I can buy only issued by the three. The shoe launch was in 1983, as tennis shoes, that year I was born in Sth This is my first pair of Nike 360, there was almost missed this one and select another double. 2008 was 25 anniversary of ACE, do not know what Nike's move. I think that as Nike retro classic shoes.
