Hi everyone- I am new to this forum but will be happy to answer questions about the design and creation of fine jewelry. I am associated with a custom jewelry design studio about 15 miles northwest of Chiacgo in the suburb of Hoffman Estates. After more than 25 years of designing and creating fine jewelry for some of the area's high end jewelry stores, Janusz Goralski and I opened his custom jewelry design studio. We actually take a blank sheet of paper, listen to what our customers tell us they want and then proceed to bring it to life first on the paper. Then, a wax model is created- we use the lost wax method- the customer is called in to check to see if everything is to their satisfaction. We then create the mold using a special material that creates the mold. This process takes place in a kiln that fires to 1400 dedgrees Fahrenheit! Next the metal is melted- usually silver or gold which is introduced to the mold. We will shortly have a short video clip on our website which actually shows the process- condensed into minutes. I have added a phto of one of the rings that we designed and created for the 2005 "Magnificent Bride" show held at the Drake Hotel in Chicago.
