The price of gold is very very high right now. I recently purchased a college class ring and it was very expensive. I would stay away from pawn shops however, they might give you quick cash but can also rip you off. Be careful.
I will agree with the last poster, but i think that has to do with bragging rights. When women get around they want to brag about the karats their ring has. I think that any size can be a beautiful diamond.
Making jewlery can be a lot of fun considering you get a real sense of accomplishment from making it. Personally i would like to get into doing it as well. This is a really cool website that shows how to make simple rings: http://www.golden-knots.com/replace.html
I've looked at stones on HSN and have found that they are not as trust worthly. Personally i would go to a local dealer because of the service you can have if anything goes wrong with the stone in the future. I doubt television shows can help you with stuff like that.
Sapphires do come in many different colors like red, light blue, yellow and of course a darker blue. I recently purchased a blue sapphire and have to say it was the one i liked the most.
